Return to Sundance

IMG_0306

Last year’s escape to the Sundance Film Festival was so nice that I definitely wanted to return. Lucky for me, my roomie Rebecca planned out the adventure.

So here it is in pictures with captions:

I feel like taking pictures like this is required. The guy who took it said we had to make it our Facebook profile pic. I don’t think I’m going to do that, but I am going to put it here.

The first thing we did was stand in the waitlist line to try and see Flypaper, which is an fantastic comedic bank heist movie. We were totally victorious in getting in and I liked it a lot, minus the fact that it had a certain swear word in it about a million times (not much of an exaggeration). But I would watch it again in a heart beat and share it with all of my friends if it was edited.

It was also a really cool viewing experience because the director, Rob Minkof, was there to talk about it before and after. And he also just happened to be the director of The Lion King. So sweet.

After that we just wandered main street and took Sundancey pictures.

For some reason, random people kept jumping in. That banana man was there on purpose. I saw him creep into frame in the reflection of the window. And apparently me and that lady are best friends? Note how the guy she’s with just kept going.

Our grand finale was eating at the Eatery. Tasty.

It was a very successful day!

(Minus the fact that they ran out of the free Brita water bottles that I love. And I had been waiting all year to get one since I lost last year’s on my layover in Chicago on the way back from DC. But don’t worry, I bought one on ebay when I got home last night… It was necessary.)

New Spice

This is kind of a cheater post. I keep almost writing something-- I have about 100 ideas just waiting to be written and have pictures edited. Like Louise visiting, Gettysburg, New York, Newseum... I have an entire sticky note of them. But I never seem to get quite enough time to do them. So to tide you over I'm posting this video for those of you who don't go to BYU or haven't logged on to facebook in the past couple of days. This thing has majorly gone viral. It was posted three days ago on youtube, and already has almost a million views. So enjoy! It's a fantastic spoof of the Old Spice commercial from the super bowl for the BYU library. Fun fact: the original commercial was actually done by a Portland ad agency with a Portland actor. Go Portland and BYU!

Also, for those of you who may have wondered, I did feel the earthquake the other day. It was at 5 a.m., which was actually only a couple of hours after I had gone to sleep because about half of the Barlow Center went to the midnight showing of Inception even though we had class at 8 a.m. Reckless, yes, but totally and completely worth it. Go see it now. Needless to say I was really confused when I woke up to the earth shaking. After trying to figure out what was different from normal I realized there was an earthquake, and then promptly fell back asleep. No one else who went to the movie even knew it happened until people started texting us the next morning.

Escape

IMG_4514

I know I’ve only been back in Provo for three weeks, but I am already excruciatingly bored with my life. Yet again. January has a way of doing that. I’ve decided the only way I can combat this is to find more exciting things to do within driving distance.

This weekend we escaped to the Sundance film festival. We didn’t end up watching any films, but it was incredibly refreshing to change up the scenery, even if we were still in Utah. And we might end up going to a show later if they have a film we want to see at the actual Sundance ski resort (as opposed to Park City, which is the central hub for the festival now, and is where we went this weekend to people watch. The ski resort is much closer since it’s only 15 minutes from campus).

Here are some pictures so you can pretend you escaped too.

{There were lots of fun posters everywhere. The guy in the black coat talked to us and was putting up posters and top ramen for his film that was showing at Slamdance. He seemed nice. And really soft spoken.}

{Some random music happiness too. Someone gave us a free cd. I haven’t listened to it yet, but in my imagination it’s really good. My favorite freebie of the day was a really nice nalgene water bottle with Sundance 2010 written on it. We still can’t decide if it’s yellow or green though.}

{Other things I liked and Main Street}

P.S. I still LOVE my camera. Taking it places is magical.

P.S.S. Here is a bonus scene from my apartment this morning when we were cleaning out the freezer. It was terrifying. We found meat in there that was best by 2008.
