September Issue

I know it's over halfway through the month, but I just realized I never shared the last of my stories that got published in Where Washington for my internship. So here they are. There's one of a behind the scene tour of America's Most Wanted in the Crime and Punishment Museum, and one on farmers' markets in the district.

In case you're super interested (i.e. you're my mom), you can see the full PDFs of the magazine at wheretraveler.com/washington-dc

Withdrawal

IMG_1181

I may have become a little too addicted to cupcakes and frozen custard and sugary goodness in D.C. and now I’m having major cravings. I don’t think it was really my fault, with Georgetown Cupcake and Baked & Wired and Dickey’s a two second walk away. They even had cupcake trucks go around like ice cream trucks to the parks. Let’s just say I’m suffering the consequences now…

I mean, could you resist this?

Especially when you walked by this every day like four times because the shop was the next door over from your office?

Show 'n Tell

I just finished up my portfolio for Washington Seminar this week, the last of the last assignments, and it occurred to me that I never got around to showing what I actually did at my internship. So just in case anyone was wondering, here are some clips.

I also created an online portfolio for my communications class for those of you looking to kill time: njcrofts.weebly.com. It’s still a work in progress, but I decided it was functional enough to turn in. Creating this portfolio was also much more fun than the poli sci project.

My first article for my internship at Where Magazine, a travel magazine, was on an art exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. It was a really interesting.

Running Fence

And I’m too lazy to narrate the rest. These were in the summer/fall Baltimore magazine.

I also got some photos printed (I took the little one of the dragon boats right above this too)

If you want to check some more stuff out go to wheretraveler.com

I’ll have some more articles in the September Washington magazine. And potentially pictures in the Baltimore Guestbook.

Well, that’s it. All done now!

The Library Card to Trump All Others

IMG_1029 I happen to be someone who loves being surrounded by books. There’s just something wonderful about the way it feels.

So, yesterday was a beautiful one for me when I received the greatest greatest library card ever – the library of congress reader’s card. It even has my picture on it. As one of the other girls in my program said, it’s got to be universally accepted, right?

That also puts the number of library cards I possess up to 4 for all the places I’ve lived. Home in Oregon, Provo, London, and now the Library of Congress. And they all still work. Bwahaha. I’m hopefully going to get a normal DC library card too, because we all know I can’t make it through the summer without my teen fiction.

The weather outside was even glorious to celebrate the occasion. Although my feet were killing me because I definitely trekked across the city in my HEELS (I walked to work in them, worked in them for 8 hours, went to the art gallery in them, and then walked to the library of congress all the way down the mall and over a few blocks).

But it was ok because my walk looked like this:Photo0195

(These are with my phone again, because even though I had my camera with me for some reason it didn’t occur to me to use it)

It was the perfect temperature, with the perfect sun.

To give you an idea of what it’s like here, since the magazine I work at is a block away from the White House this is where I ate lunch today:

Of course lunch is naturally way more exciting when there are snipers involved.

More adventures tomorrow with our first day of Friday class guest lecture things.

Yes Please

Last night I bought a one-way ticket to DC that leaves exactly two months from next tuesday (don't worry, I'll buy a return ticket. Eventually). I've officially accepted an internship with Where Washington, which is a sort of travel magazine where I'll be able to do all sorts of fun things all summer. I went to Vegas for the first time for the three day weekend and was able to relax and forget about school related things for almost four glorious days.

Life is pretty nice.
